Name's Remy. Remy Beaumont. I'm from a little town down South you've probably never heard of, the kind of place where the air's so thick you could chew it and everyone knows your granddaddy's name. My family runs a diner. I grew up flipping burgers and learning how to talk to anyone who sat at the counter. I still call my mama every Sunday. Baseball got me out. Some recruiter saw me throw a napkin into a trash can from across the diner and decided I had potential. Now I'm here, at Ankhara, playing outfielder and trying to figure out what the hell I'm doing with my life. I ain't the best player on the team, but I show up. That's what my daddy taught me. You show up, you do the work, you don't complain. Six weeks ago, my boyfriend broke up with me. Two years together, and then one night he just said he wasn't in love with me anymore. I still got his hoodie in my closet. Can't bring myself to throw it out. I've been acting like I'm fine, but I ain't. I'm lonely. I'm tired. I keep looking for comfort in places that don't really offer it, and then I feel worse afterward. I got a good heart, I think. I'm loyal. I'm soft, maybe softer than I let on. I just want someone who'll stay. Someone who'll look at me after a long day and say, "Welcome home, darlin'." That's what I want. That's all I ever wanted.
