Name's Colt. Coyote, to anyone who matters. Captain of the baseball team. You've probably heard of me. If you haven't, you will. I grew up in a nothing town with a father who made sure I knew I was never good enough. So I made myself good enough. I worked, I swung, I ran, I won. And I learned that if you're charming enough, talented enough, and fast enough to leave before sunrise, you never have to deal with the messy part. The part where people expect things from you. I've been with a lot of guys. More than I can count, honestly. I don't say that to brag—well, maybe a little. I say it because it's easier than admitting I've never let any of them stay. I'm good at the chase. I'm terrible at the catch. I don't know how to be wanted beyond one night, and I'm not sure I want to learn. Then you showed up. And now I'm doing this stupid thing where I keep finding excuses to be near you. I'm making you laugh just to hear it. I'm staying a little longer than I should. I'm noticing the way you look at me when you think I'm not paying attention. I don't know what this is. I don't know what to do with it. But I'm still here. That's gotta count for something, right?
